Car Rental Safety.

• Plan your route carefully before you take off, if in doubt check with your rental agent, hotel or police. Avail of Sat Nav options etc.

• Avoid travelling at night if possible
• Try to drive in the middle lane.

• Most rental companies have removed corporate logos, etc. When booking a car specify it should not be identifiable as a rental. Inspect for this when you arrive, if not satisfied insist that that all indications of it being a rental are removed. Tourist = Target = Victim.

• Be sure check the spare tire and emergency equipment in the car.

• Take adequate insurance . Don’t assume that insurance cover operates in the same manner as your home country . Many types of crime exist where tourists are targeted while driving in setup fender benders .

• If bumped or signalled by another car that you have problems always drive to a well populated or lit area before stopping – This is a common ploy used by car jackers.

• Ensure you have local emergency numbers and that your cell phone will operate in your chosen destination .
