Hotel Safety.
• Always leave your room key at reception.
• Try to ensure that you room floor is between 3-6floors high . (High enough to discourage climbing criminals and low enough to be reached by fire services escape ladders)
• Ask for a room that is not at the end of a hall. The safest rooms, and the most convenient, are clearly visible from the elevator or near a centre of activity.
• Avoid rooms that open to the outdoors. A sliding glass door
opening onto a patio on the ground floor near the pool is not a safe bet .
• Do not take a room near vending machines, (This can provide criminal with an excuse to loiter and observe)
• Always engage the safety latch on a hotel room door
• If someone knocks at your door and you are not expecting company check with reception before opening
• Do not put the “Make Up my Room” sign up, this is a clear signal you are out
• If possible leave the TV or a light on in the room
• Use hotel safes for valuables and keep a photo copy of you passport separate to you original in the hotel safe also .This can help significantly if your passport is lost or stolen
• Always ask for receipts at hotels when they make you pay in advance.
• At hotel reception ,Do not discuss travel plans, your room number or any other personal information in public wimedium earshot of strangers.
